In trying out our first game of HARP, we created a well-rounded party (Ranger, Fighter, Cleric, Mage, Monk, Warrior Mage and Rogue). I sent them into a dungeon, which they wandered through for a while until they found a prison wing. As they began searching the cells, two Goblins came out from a few cells down the hall.
The Dwarf Fighter advanced while the Mage cast a spell, stunning one of the Goblins. The Dwarf slashed at the next Goblin stunning that one as well. With his darkvision, the Dwarf saw two more Goblins a few yards away. The Fighter advanced again. Another spell from the Warrior Mage stunned the third Goblin and the Dwarf's axe stunned the last one.
Four stunned Goblins and the Player Characters are completely unhurt...but it was not to last.
As the Goblins began to recover from their stunning, the first succumbed to the Monk's tremendous assault. The second Goblin managed a weak swing (rolling an 09 to hit). It would be the only attack the Goblins would make. So did the Goblins hurt the party? Nope, they started damaging themselves!
The Dwarf rolled a fumble with the axe and dished himself 7 points, while the Warrior Mage cast an "Elemental Bolt (Air)" at one of the far Goblins who was in melee with the Cleric. There must have been a slight draft, as the 'Bolt hit the Cleric!
Eventually the Goblins were defeated, but the party quickly learned that they could be their own worst enemy.
